The same one valued at something stupid like 30+ million?</div><div>&nbsp;</div><div>I don&#39;t think so. Arsene has already been clear that contrary to what the board says, he doesn&#39;t have the money and will instead carry on developing young talent rather than pay huge transfer fees for big-name signings. &quot;What we need to focus on is continually developing and not live in dreamland where we are linked with players of &pound;30 million to &pound;40m because that is not realistic,&quot; Wenger said. &quot;We have gone for a policy that is to develop our young players ... and not listen to everybody (in the media) who comes out every day with a new name, It is not necessarily linked that you spend 30 million (pounds) and get a massive player.&quot;</div><div><br /> </div><div>But missing is that the likes of Flamini, Gilberto, Hleb, Bentley, Lassana Diarra and Thierry Henry have left for quite large sums of money, but where are the replacements? Simply put, they haven&#39;t been any. Not of anywhere near the same value (or immediate quality). This summer signings have been typical for what we have come to expect from Arsene like Amaury Bischoff and Francis Coquelin, and don&#39;t get me wrong I have faith. &#39;Arsene knows&#39; and I don&#39;t doubt that these players can blossom into great players (or at least ones that we can sell to make a healthy profit on). The sole exception is Samir Nasri, but we knew his transfer was on the cards a month before it was finalised. My fear is that we have seen the back of too many experienced players and we&#39;ll have to suffer an absence of silverware to compensate for financial security until the youth mature.</div><div><br /> </div><div>Can you wait patiently until then or will the fans voice demanding ready-made stars be heard (or should it)? years with us has had repeated speculation linking him with another club. The FA Cup holders are now just three points outside the relegation zone after three successive defeats and a trip to Emirates Stadium is hardly an ideal final game of 2008. Liverpool were on top after the interval, although chances were at a premium even before Adebayor went in high on Alvaro Arbeloa, prompting Webb to issue the striker his second yellow card. &quot;It was very soft,&quot; said Wenger of the second booking. &quot;If we get red cards like that from opponents away from home then I&#39;m very happy. &quot;It was not a red card, it was not a second yellow card. After the disapointment of a&nbsp;relatively&nbsp;early exit from the Carling Cup (especially given the quality of the current youth crop), lets take a look at Arsenal&rsquo;s scouting network.<br /></div><div><br /></div><div><strong>Manager - Arsene Wenger</strong></div><div>We have to start at the top, and manager Arsene really is the brains behind the whole operation. From his first day in charge he set about bringing a global vision to the club. Only after studying an extensive dossier and video footage of a player will Wenger even consider making a move for him. He is always the ultimate judge when it is decided whether a player is good enough for Arsenal.</div><div><br /></div><div><strong>Chief scout - Steve Rowley</strong></div><div>The leader of a scouting operation that includes seven English scouts and 16 more abroad, Rowley will always travel to watch a player before he is recommended to Wenger. Rowley has been at Arsenal for 30 years and discovered the likes of Tony Adams and Ray Parlour, but before Wenger arrived he had never been on a working assignment outside of Britain. Since then he has travelled all over the planet and is held in such high esteem that clubs have constantly tried to poach him. He recently turned down a big money move to Zenit St Petersburg.</div><div><br /></div><div><strong>Spanish scout - Francis Cagigao</strong></div><div>Cagigao is a former youth player at Arsenal and Barcelona but while he never quite made it as a first-teamer he has become a valuable asset as a scout. Cagigao is the man who identified Cesc Fabregas as a player worth chasing and he recommended Lionel Messi to Arsenal with work permit issues preventing a move for the Argentine at the time. Recently he discovered Fran Merida - tipped as the &lsquo;new Fabregas&rsquo; - who starred against Wigan in the Carling Cup.</div><div><br /></div><div><strong>South American scout - Sandro Orlandelli</strong></div><div>Based in Brazil, Orlandelli immediately called Rowley when he saw Carlos Vela playing at the World Youth Championships in Peru. Orlandelli also became friends with Vela&rsquo;s father, which helped seal the deal. Denilson was another Orlandelli discovery, while he also first spotted young left-sided player Pedro Botelho who is currently on loan at Salamanca in Spain. He scouted Sao Paulo striker Diogo, for whom Arsenal have had two recent bids rejected.</div><div><br /></div><div><strong>The close friend - Jean-Marc Guillou</strong></div><div>Not directly on the Arsenal payroll - Guillou has still been a key player in the Arsenal success story. His football schools in Africa helped unearth Kolo Toure and Emmanuel Eboue, and his close relationship with Wenger made sure that the Arsenal boss found out first. Guillou was also manager of Belgian club Beveren during the co-operation agreement between the clubs which ran from 2001 until 2006.</div><div><br /></div><div><strong>French scout - Gilles Grimandi</strong></div><div>Wenger has an in-depth knowledge of the French game, but when he hears about a top prospect in his homeland he instructs former player Grimandi to keep a keen eye on the player. Positive reports from Grimandi on the likes of Abou Diaby, Bacary Sagna, Alex Song, and Mathieu Flamini persuaded Wenger to sign the players.</div><div><br /></div><div><strong>The international partnerships performance supervisor - Steve Morrow</strong></div><div>Most famous for scoring the winning goal in the 1993 League Cup final before breaking his arm in the post-match celebrations - Morrow recently started managing Arsenal&rsquo;s international partnerships, which currently includes the Colorado Rapids of the MLS, BEC Tero of Thailand and Hoang Anh Gia Lai of Vietnam. Morrow also assists Arsenal&rsquo;s academies in countries such as Egypt and Ghana.</div><div><br /></div><div><strong>Scandinavian scout - Bobby Bennett</strong></div><div>Bennett has been working for Arsenal in Scandinavia for seven years and helped to persuade Nicklas Bendtner to join the club by presenting him with a signed shirt from his favourite player - Robert Pires. Bennett also scouted Havard Nordtveit, a 17-year-old Norwegian centre-half who is considered one of Arsenal&rsquo;s top prospects and who is currently on loan with Botelho at Salamanca.</div><div><br /></div><div><strong>Germany scout - Thomas Kost</strong></div><div>It didn&rsquo;t &lsquo;Kost&rsquo; much for Arsenal to get either Philippe Senderos or Lukasz Fabianski because both were spotted by Kost early in their careers.</div><div><br /></div><div><strong>Italian scout - Tony Banfield</strong></div><div>Banfield is the son of reserve team coach Neil. When Cesc Fabregas looped the ball into the box Alex Song and Titus Bramble tussled but it found its way through to Adebayor who shot past Chris Kirkland.</div><div><br /></div><div>It&#39;s difficult to forget how Wigan came here and lost humiliatingly 3-0 to our Arsenal reserve team, and on par with this performance its far from satisfying, but the main objective was achieved, especially as the others all got their 3 points too. Gutted to see Samir Nasri injured on 33 minutes following a foul by Wilson Palacios, who was only yellow-carded for the offense. It looks like an ankle injury so lets hope he&#39;s not out for too long.</div><div><br /></div><div>Also, disappointing to see Eboue a victim of the booing, he was out of position and maybe Jack proves that he is not worthy of the Arsenal team selection even in our young side as we fail to progress in the Carling Cup.<br /><br />After some fantastic performances in recent times (and a clean sheet in all our Carling Cup matches this season up to now), Lukasz Fabianski had a poor performance, including spilled the ball into McDonald&#39;s path who put Burnley ahead. <br /><br />This was though, to be fair, very much against the turn of play and even though we went into half time one nil down, it could well have been 4, or 5-1 to us were it not for a few good saves from Burnley keeper Brian Jensen, and Nicklas Bendtner wasteing several bread-and-butter chances.<br /><br />Looking to the positives, Paul Rodgers, 19, was on a debut for us and again to be fair there were several positive performances from some of our young guns who played with composure and elegance playing some brilliant build up play and creating one-on-ones with their keeper on a number of occasions.<br /><br />But again, as is becoming painfully often the case, wastefulness in front of goal costs us again. Bendtner missed time and time again, mostly firing straight at the body of Jensen.<br /><br />Mark Randall too has a nightmare, missing a chance with just the keeper to beat and being far to easily out-muscled allowing Burley to get their second. I suppose we have to take away the positives, and to be fair I&#39;m sure most of the players will have gained valuable experience points. I really do believe that our confidence would have taken such a hit, it would have had a knock on effect for Tuesday at Burnley (even though a fair few of the players will differ) and possibly even further than that.<br /><br />Then, with Chelsea dominanting the match, Van Persie delivered two crucial goals to earn us a fantastic win.<br /><br />He drilled home the equaliser after 59 minutes (offside - away from home <img src="http://arsenal4life.com/emoticons/emotion-1.gif" alt="Smile" /> ), then again Van Persie scored, this time on the turn to complete a remarkable turnaround and give us a much needed lift. And before any Chelsea fan complains about the ref, lets talk about John Terry&#39;s two footed lunge at Sagna - shocking, how he gets away with it time and time again. Credit to Villa, they played a great match even gaining a penalty in the first five minutes, but Manuel Almunia produced penalty save against Young.</div><div><br /></div><div>Brad Friedel saved well from Cesc Fabregas in the first half and Emmanuel Adebayor hit a post late - but this was way too little way too late. After the lads responded so well to all the criticism by beating Manchester United last Saturday, this really is a sucker punch and punishing to our self-belief.</div><div><br /></div><div>I&#39;ve said it before, and I&#39;ll say it again, Arsenal rely heavily on self-belief and without it we cannot produce the performances needed... a real shame after such a positive win against Man United when our backs were against the wall.</div><div><br /></div><div>We almost broke the deadlock after 15 minutes when Friedel saved from Fabregas and Curtis Davies needed to make a desperate clearance as the ball ran loose. The game continued in an open fashion after the break, and Arsene introduced Adebayor in place of Abou Diaby.</div><div><br /></div><div>Overall, this is a frustrating loss. After working so hard to get back some momentum, it feels like somebody has slammed on the brakes. He was terrible and I cannot wait &#39;til he packs his bags... January would not be too soon in my eyes.
