Season 2006/2007

Following our lads through their first season at the Emirates Stadium

Comings and Goings...

So the boss has revealed he has made an offer for Chelski defender William Gallas. This has got to be part of a deal where Ashley Cole finally buggers off. I would guess that this also involves a part cash payment to us as part of the deal too.

Sounds reasonable to me. I think if Cole were to go without an immediate replacement we would have a hard time. Make no mistake; what were talking about here is swapping a 25 year old at his peak for a 29 year old with a few years left so a straight swap will never happen. But it seems sometimes we concentrate so hard on getting youngsters for the future that we let our current performance slip (or we rely on the big guns too heavily).

Look at the start to this season - one game in and were already playing catch-up. Let’s be clear, last season the Premiership campaign was the worst for as long as I can remember. But I still have absolute confidence in the boss - Pires has gone, but with an immediate replacement in the little Mozart. It was unfortunate to hear about the injury suffered by Pires at Villarreal (get well soon Rob), but coincidence? Maybe, but it just goes to show what foresight (or good fortune) the gaffer has.
