Season 2006/2007

Following our lads through their first season at the Emirates Stadium

Brazil 3-0 Argentina

Held in our magnificent stadium, this was match that had it all in potential.Argentina looked a strong force, with almost all their big names out in play. Tevez was awesome and Messi was brilliant, but unfortunately they didn’t get the service they needed. Riquelme showed flashes of his brilliance, but seemed to have another off night (this proving a good opportunity to remind him of his penalty miss against us!).

I was disappointed by the starting eleven fielded by Brazil with Robinho and our Gilberto being the main men, but they all played as a team and this proved decisive. In the second half they bought out some of their big guns (Kaka making an instant impact, and showing why he is one of the best in the world). Some of Brazil’s movement of the ball with their star players was so fast it was difficult to keep your eyes on it!

The biggest cheer of the night undoubtedly went to Baptista (who came on for the last ten minutes). He looks a big strong lad and was getting involved in some meaty looking challenges. Unfortunately he didn’t get much of the ball so it was difficult to access his capabilities. But one thing is for sure; his physical frame will send many a shiver down the spine of our opponents!
