Season 2006/2007

Following our lads through their first season at the Emirates Stadium

Reading 0-4 Arsenal

Henry pulls the trigger twice in a comfortable win for us. Exactly the performance needed after our Champions League hick-up. Fabregas again plays out of his skin and Hleb and van Persie each pick up a goal in a game that showed the magnificent strength of our midfield. Our performance was that of the team playing with ambition and belief. I positively believe that in this form we can certainly challenge for the League title this year (a far cry from the lowly depths we had dropped to only a few weeks back). For such a young team to give a display of such experience is quite frankly – unbelievable. Let’s not forget, Reading gave Chelski a good run for their money (and Lehman pulled through just fine Wink).

Clearly our pace dropped off in the later stages of the match which is something we cannot let happen against stronger opposition, but at 4-0 up with our Carling Cup tie two days away, there was no point in over exhorting ourselves.

Former Arsenal legend Paul Merson said after the game that he believes Fabregas will go on to be the best player in the world – and with his play like this at the age of 19, who can argue against it?
