Season 2006/2007

Following our lads through their first season at the Emirates Stadium

Wigan 0-1 Arsenal

A late goal by Adebayor gives us the three points and moves us back up into third. The first half saw us play some slack football, with little of the expected possession and few chances for us. Arsene’s half time talk got us into a much better form for the second half although some miraculous defending (by Toure in particular) spared us from going behind.

Then in the 88th minute substitute Fabregas lofted a beautiful over the heads of about five Wigan defenders to land the ball into the feet of Adebayor, who coolly slotted it between Kirkland’s legs to give us the winner.

Adebayor really is doing the business at the moment. It is encouraging to see us not have to rely on Henry all the time. In fact I think that sometimes we play better as a team without him, it is less obvious for our opposition to predict our methods of attack.

Results matter and it is these types of victories that contenders for the title fight to the end for. A satisfactory win, from a scrappy match, something we need to churn out more often.
