Season 2006/2007

Following our lads through their first season at the Emirates Stadium

Liverpool 3-6 Arsenal

Júlio Baptista scores four as we put SIX past Liverpool to progress to the Carling Cup semi-final.

However, for me Jeremie Aliadiere was man of the match. His performances have not always been up to the first team standard when he has had a chance to play (which in his defence is admittedly not often). However, on this performance, it is going to be difficult for Arsene to justify his sale if push comes to shove.

Aliadiere had a magnificent first touch to pull down a long straight overhead pass from Toure and then kept his nerve to shoot it past Dudek. Liverpool bought it back to 1-1, but a Baptista free-kick looped over the wall and neatly went into the bottom corner of the goal to put us back into the lead. Next Alex Song Billong latched onto a corner ball to score, then Baptista put away a smart finish after a fantastic run, cut back and pass by Aliadiere made it 4-1 at half-time.

Ecstasy! Some disbelief, lets not forget this was away to Liverpool... but the scoreline at halftime was 4-1…
The second half bought two more from Baptista, and although they pulled two back to make it 6-3 (including a typical Gerrard stunner)… but come on… a team consisting of our young guns vs. a Liverpool squad featuring Gerrard, Hyypia, Dudek, Carragher and Luis Garcia (OK, the later two came on as a substitutes, but still).

Nearly 77 years since Liverpool have conceded six goals at home, I think, places this achievement into some perspective.

Tottenham… were you watching?
