Freddie kept a cool head to slot home a left-foot finish in extra time and put us through to the FA Cup fifth round.
Adebayor scored an early goal after our typical multiple-pass build up lead to his 15-yards shot taking a deflection and going in. We dominated the majority of the match with some awesome play (showing no care in the world about this bogey team talk), but there was quick flashes of hope for Bolton and when Gilberto Silva missed his penalty after 62 minutes it gave the Bolton players a visible lift.
As per usual Bolton tried to out muscle us and again, they clearly could not match the quality of our play, but the ref tried to keep out of the game as much as possible. Tal Ben Haim must have committed enough fouls to accumulate 5 or 6 yellow cards, but was eventually sent off after a second yellow card late in extra time. We played with a somewhat shaky defense at times, with Almunia saving our hides pulling of some great saves, but almost inevitably with the way this match was going, Bolton did scrambled a last-gasp equaliser in the 90th minute.
However, in the second half of extra time we again went in front after substitute Aliadiere made an amazing run and gave the opening for Ljungberg to score in his first match back after injury. Baptista played a hot and cold match again, and needs to keep his composure to make the most of when chances do arrive. He only just failed to connect with Clichy's cross, and wasted a few chances that a player of his skill should be putting away.
He even managed to miss the second penalty we were awarded when Nicolas Anelka bought down Adebayor. That would have put us two goals up, but he shot his spot-kick well over the bar, as was the case with Gilberto’s earlier penalty attempt.
But in the 120th minute of extra time we broke on the counter again and Adebayor scored his second to wrap up a nervous match that didn’t need to be, had the finishing been better.
