Arsene Wenger hopes to follow up the success of his youngsters' victory in Milan by signing another Spanish teenager.

Arsenal have beaten Barcelona, Manchester United and Valencia to the signature of centre-half Ignasi Miquel, 15, from Catalan club Cornella. He will join up when he turns 16 in September.

Miquel, who like Cesc Fabregas was once part of the Barcelona youth academy, visited Arsenal last weekend to check on his lodgings and the signing of the 6ft 2in defender demonstrates that Wenger will continue to nurture young talent rather than spend his £30million transfer fund.

Arsenal's attack will soon be supplemented by Mexico forward Carlos Vela, 19. On loan at Osasuna, he should receive an EU passport this month and could join Arsenal in July.
